Dr. Baromio,
First Hair transplant on hairy areas in
1822
Professor Dr. Dom ,
Unger performed the first auto-transplantation of animal hair.
1939
Dr. Okuda of Japan ,
explained how to use small dermal punches of 2mm to 4 mm (quite similar to FUE procedures) to harvest hair-holding skin from the scalp, and then implant these grafts on to balding area of the scalp and parts on the body
1943
Dr. Tamura ,
transplanted restored female pubic hair with micro-implants of 1 – 3 hairs.
1952
Dr. Norman Orentreich
of USA with large punches moved the group of follicles from the scalp and placed them in the bald region. Dr. Orentreich described his achievements in a theory named “Principle of Donor Dominance”. This theory proved correct and later on he successfully performed around 10,000 hair transplant surgeries.
1980
Dr. Bobby Limmer
of Texas, introduced microscopes in hair restoration surgeries. It was done for the creation of 1 to 5 grafts inserted into the slits
1992
Dr. Carlos Oscar Uebel
Performed the excision of a linear donor strip
The DHI technique of hair transplant was developed by the Kyungpook National University of Korea
1995
Dr. Ray Woods,
of Australia introduced circular punches of 1 mm to harvest single follicular unit.
2002
Dr. Robert M. Bernstein and Dr. William R. Rassman
FUE as a surgical technique described by Dr. Robert M. Bernstein and Dr. William R. Rassman in the medical literature
2006-07
Dr. John Cole,
invented punch grafts .
